30-Second Summary
In a 100-day rat model of chronic hyperglycemia, both experimental T1D and T2D caused structural and functional changes in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. T2D showed greater oxidative stress and inflammation linked with anxiety- and depression-like behaviors, whereas T1D produced more severe cognitive decline, BDNF depletion, altered neurotransmitter/ion‑pump activities, and greater neuronal damage.
